About Us

Nurture and Flow was founded in 2019, and is owned and operated by a black woman - Oakland native and 8-year Full Spectrum Doula, Andrea Weaver.

A couple holding a pregnant woman's belly outdoors, with one person's hands on top of the other's, all wearing rings and a bracelet.

We started this doula practice knowing how socially constructed and systematic oppression upheld barriers preventing families from accessing equitable options for reproductive health and healthy living.

There is still a large gap in maternal care, despite progress in the right direction. We often see how much more can be done when we see clients, even today, whose fears have been dismissed, who feel alone and helpless because they do not have enough information to make informed decisions.

At Nurture and Flow, you get to write your own story, look back proudly on your process, and experience your birth journey with people that care about you -not just another patient.

The good news is that you are not alone, we will make sure you know that.

Yogi. Educator. Speaker. Founder.

To mark World Doula Week (March 2022), Andrea chatted with Nataly Joseph on Match Volume. The two discussed the importance of Black doulas for Black women considering the maternal mortality rate for Black mothers is nearly three times that of white mothers nationally.

A family of six standing on a wooden bridge in a forest, embracing and smiling at each other, all dressed in white.

The right of every birthing person, especially Black and brown people, to make informed decisions for themselves and their babies should be respected, and we should be provided with unbiased support when making those decisions.

Humanizing pregnancy, birth, and postpartum support for us is absolutely essential in bridging the gap in maternal care. We strive to support the communities we serve through education, providing uncompromised access to care, resources, brave spaces for growth, and giving back to our community. As part of our support for doulas, we mentor, counsel, and evidence-based training with an inclusive lens to bring equality and equitability to birth work.

Becoming the change, we want to see.
